What is workplace harassment?

Workplace harassment is any conduct that is unwelcome, offensive, rises to a certain level and is based on a protected characteristic. Even conduct that isn’t considered unlawful can violate your harassment policy. Course content: What you’ll learn in our Workplace Harassment training course

Our course helps learners spot, respond to, report and prevent harassment of all types. Included in the training content are several separate modules covering core topics, including abusive conduct, bullying, discrimination, inter-office romances, and the persistent challenge of sexual harassment.  

For employees in manager or supervisory roles, manager-specific versions include additional information that covers their unique responsibilities in preventing harassment and responding to reports of harassment in the workplace.

Learn how to spot and prevent employee harassment in the workplace

Preventing workplace harassment is a continuous effort – and not just the effort of the manager or a few employees, but everyone within the business.  

In this training course, your employees will learn about:  

  • Harassment terminology 
  • Sexual harassment definitions and behaviors 
  • Prevention and response guidance

Now available as instructor-led training

Workplace Harassment is now available as instructor-led training, making it easier to reach frontline, field and deskless employees. Facilitator guides, presentation materials and completion tracking help you deliver consistent, legally vetted training across your workforce.

State-specific workplace harassment training courses

Specific course versions are also available to help employers meet evolving anti-harassment training requirements in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois and the city of Chicago, Maine, New York and New York City, Washington and Washington D.C.

  • California sexual harassment training

    In California, employers with five or more employees are required to provide at least two hours of sexual harassment training to all supervisory employees, and at least one hour to all non-supervisory employees.

    All Chicago employers are required to provide sexual harassment training to all employees, as well as an additional hour of bystander intervention training.

  • Connecticut sexual harassment training

    As of October 2020, Connecticut employers with one or more employees are required to provide sexual harassment training to all employees, whether they are in a supervisory role or not.

  • Delaware sexual harassment training

    In Delaware, employers with 50 or more employees are required to provide sexual harassment training to all employees. Training must be provided to all new employees within one year of their start date , and every two years thereafter.

  • Illinois sexual harassment training

    All Illinois employers are required to provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees. Training must be provided to all new employees within 60 days of their hire date. Employers with 50 or more employees must provide retraining annually.

  • Maine sexual harassment training

    Maine employers with 15 or more employees are required to provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees. Training must be provided to all new employees within one year of employment.

  • New York City sexual harassment training

    All New York City employers must provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees annually. Initial training must be provided within 90 days of hire or promotion.

    All New York state employers must provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees annually. Employees should receive training regardless of employment status (e.g. temporary or part-time workers) and immigration status.

    In Washington state, training must be provided to all employees, managers and supervisors working in the hotel, motel, retail, security guard entity, or property services contractor industries that employ at least one person.
